Roberta Carugati


Roberta is an Italian clinical and counselling psychologist HCPC registered. She provides a warm, safe, supportive, non-judgemental space, which allows clients to feel listened to and to challenge established ways of thinking and being

She uses REBT and CBT to help clients to become aware of their beliefs, attitude, unhealthy behaviours (e.g. procrastination, sleep disturbance) because she truly believes that negative emotions and dysfunctional behaviours are predominantly generated by dysfunctional beliefs and cognitive distortions. She provides a variety of methods and techniques to help clients reformulate their maladaptive beliefs into more flexible and helpful ones. Consequently, changing cognitive distortions and using healthier and alternative ways of thinking, which can lead to an emotional improvement. 

Roberta always follows a person-centred approach, in which she values client’s strengths and trusts their ability/innate tendency to fulfil their personal potentials.

She has more than eight years of working experience in hospitals and mental health settings both in Italy and the UK, providing high standards of psychological care, with compassion and empathy. She works with clients with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, panic attacks, brain injury, schizophrenia, Korsakoff’s syndrome, personality disorders and substance misuse. She believes that therapy is a journey that enriches both the client and the therapist’s lives.

Roberta has provided long-term private therapy, as well as short-term therapy within the NHS.

She is also EMDR Europe trained and is in the register of the therapists licensed to use it.

In her spare time she also writes articles for the Italian psychotherapy magazine “State of Mind”
